Wow! What a day. The Project team went to a school supported by SeeBeyondBorders to demonstrate and discuss the importance of health to the children. We had three areas where the children could get involved: hand washing, teeth cleaning and weight and height data entry.
Being in charge of teeth cleaning, I don’t think my teeth have ever been so clean. The children had an amazing time cleaning their teeth and they loved the toothbrushes and toothpaste we gave them to take home.
The children also had a great time using 5 steps to was their hands. Ingrid and Liz did a great job with the kids and its safe to say everyone had clean hands! Collecting the data so we can track the children’s growth and development was very important and the children found it very novel to jump on the scales.
The children in years 5 and 6 took their soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste home in bags that had been produced in Cambodia and decorated by students from St Mary’s School in Manly. It was lovely to watch them carefully choose their bags from the beautiful array of designs.
The activities ended with a formal good bye from the school principal and the children sang the national anthem; it was very moving hearing the beautiful voices of these wonderful children.
It’s another day we will never forget.
